In this post I’m going to show you how to create a free blog using Blogger.com. So let’s dive straight in and get started…

1. Create your account

Head over to Blogger.com and click on the get started blue link that is at the bottom of the sign up box.

If you’ve already got a Google or a Gmail account then there’s no need to sign up again you can just sign in using those log-in details.

It will take you to the page below where you will need to enter your email and password details to create your account with Google.

Once you’ve finished filling in your details, click on the continue arrow and you can start creating your blog.

2. Create your blog

From your dashboard, click on the “Create a Blog” link that is next to manage blogs.

3. Give your blog a name

First fill in your title. This will go at the top of your blog and will be the first thing people will see when they come to your blog so make it relevant to what your going to be blogging about.

Next you need to fill out your blog address where people will go to to view your blog. Try to add your keywords in here and make it relevant to your blog theme.

Finally…enter the verification words and then click on the orange arrow to continue.

4. Choose your blog template

Have a look at the themes available and choose one that you like. Don’t spend too much time on picking your theme because you can always go back and change it at a later date.

To select the theme you want to use, click on it and it will highlight in orange.

5. Start blogging

Once you’ve picked your blog template, click on the orange arrow button to continue and your blog has been created and you can start blogging.

6. Edit your blog settings

Click on the settings tab at the top of the page. There’s a few things on this page you will need to add and choose.

  • Add a description of your blog
  • Choose yes or no to add your blog to Blogger.com listings
  • Do you want the search engines to find your blog, yes or no
  • Turn on or off Quick edits of your blog
  • Do you want to show email post links
  • Adult only blog, yes or no
  • Determine your global settings

Once you’ve done the above make sure you save your settings…

7. Arrange your page elements

Click on the Design tab at the top of the page and then click and drag your page elements until you’ve got your blog looking exactly how you want it.

That’s it you’re done…

  1. Creating a blogger account is quite easy. Maintaining it is a different thing. Blogger like WordPress are a 2.0 web that is available for free, so in general there can be no sweat creating a blog here. Anyway, thanks for the info, Dawn.

Creating them is the easy part we’ve got to make maintaining them easy now which can be done if you get into a routine.

  2. Nice article Dawn. I believe blogger.com is by far the easiest method to blog for non-techies just wanting to get on with their blog without learning all the technical jargon, however, if one takes a small amount of time to learn wordpress it is well worth the small effort. Either way, as you say, creating the blog is the easy part, maintaining it regularly takes effort and commitment (certainly helps if you love what you blog about) but is pretty easy to get into a routine of one post ewery sunday routine. All the best.

    Hi Lucus

Totally agree there. If you want a quick blog up and running without having to learn the techy stuff then Blogger is the one. Its also worth creating a blogger blog to get links back to your main site too so they definitely come in handy.
