Terry Conti - What Would You Do Differently and Why?

It’s that time again when I ask one of my online buddies what they would do if they had to start their internet marketing journey again.

Today’s guest is Mr Motivator himself…..

AKA – Terry Conti from www.TerryConti.com

So Terry.

Tell us!

What Would You Do Differently and Why?…..

If I could do it all over again, here are some important messages I want to share so you don’t get caught up and fall into a trap.

I would only buy products I know are reputable and know they will be worth my while.

How to know if a certain products are ACTUALLY A GOOD PRODUCTS?????

Check them out on the Warrior forum.  See what others are saying about them before you buy.

Also…..

The Internet used wisely is a great place to find out just about anything.

  • Forums

  • You Tube (good for how to videos)

  •  E-how

  •  Google

Just to name a few.

Only buy products knowing they will beneficial to you.

Buy what you NEED!

I’ve wasted so much money buying products I thought were good only to turn out and go THAT’S it?

I already spent the money and to trying to get it back on certain products sometimes no one gets back to you.

Sometimes if someone does get back to you may have to jump through a lot of hoops so be very careful.

There are a lot of products out there where the marketing is so good but the product is SO BAD.

You will lose money!

As stated before…..

Look products up on the Warrior form so you can get a good sense if you’re going to loose your money or not.

And don’t’ forget the Internet is a great place to find out just about anything if you apply yourself.

After you buy a certain amount of quality products…

STOP LEARNING AND START DOING!

Take Action…..

Get yourself a mentor and also develop a group of like minded people.

Know there is work to do in this business just like everything else in life!

But the rewards can be so much better than a traditional job or business if you just apply yourself correctly.

I believe the most important thing you can do when starting out is learn to start a blog.

A blog should be a springboard of who YOU ARE online.

And then build a mailing list using your free info product to give away in exchange for an email address.

With a back end paid related product link within your free product.

Get yourself a good auto responder service like Aweber and get the ideas out of your head using a free auto responder service.

It can be quite confusing between using a free service or a paid one.

In the beginning I thought using a free auto responder service would be just as good as using a paid one.

Here’s what I found out so you don’t make the same mistake I did…..

A free auto responder service will most likely have ADVERTISEMENTS surrounding your outgoing e-mail.

So here you are trying to provide Value or recommend something and there are advertisements all over your email.

Ask yourself, is this distracting or what?

Beware!

There are also other free auto responder services out there that will tell you No Advertisements.

Well you’ve got to ask yourself how good is this company in getting your e-mail through when people opt-in.

What I mean is these free auto responders services…

(With all the spam going on today) are not known in getting your email through.

Because a lot of Internet service providers (Place where people set up their email account) will consider all these opt-in e-mails from unknown autoresponders spam.

So you’ll just be Wasting Your Time working setting up all your e-mail to go out and it Will Never Get Out.

You may very well be setting yourself up to be labeled a SPAMMER right along with the free autoresponder service.

If you are going to set up a business and are serious…do it the right way!

Get yourself a paid WELL KNOWN autoresponder service and you can’t go wrong.

The two best autoresponder services out there are Aweber (which I use) and Get Response.

If you don’t believe me just ask around.

Another thing, (food for thought)…..

Lets say in time you have accumulated a sizable list using a free autoresponder.

And in the future you want to transfer the names and e-mail addresses of your list to another autoresponder service!

Most likely the names and e-mail addresses you have accumulated Will NOT Be Transferable.

So now if you want to go to a premium service…..you’ll have to start all over again building a list.

You see!

It just pays to go with a premium autoresponder service Right From The Beginning…..

You’ll save yourself a lot of headaches then!!!

Remember you get What You Pay For as this is very important.

If you get caught up in anything you do in this business, DON’T STAY CAUGHT UP.

Do something about it so you can get through it and move forward.

Forward momentum is key!

Otherwise you are just going to stay in one place for long periods of time, get trapped and most likely end up giving up.

Know there must come a point when the learning stops and the DOING Starts.

Just dive right in and start doing, more learning will happen as you go along.

Be bold.

Confront your fears!

Strive to always move forward…

And you will be pointing yourself in the right direction towards success.

Yours

Terry Conti

  2. Hi Dawn and Terry.

Great post. Personally speaking, I can relate to most of the points made. I never used free autoresponders but I was a full time learner for a while.
It is like planning something great and feeling like you’re doing something just by planning. If you don’t start executing the plan, nothing will happen.

I have only recently started to actually DO. I can build in time to learn which I will do regularly. You have to keep learning or you will fall behind, right?

So thanks again from a former learner who is now a doer who learns as well.

    All the best,

    @David Taylor,

    Hi there David,

It’s great you tell us you are in the process of doing and the learning never stops.

There is nothing wrong with being a full time learner. Yes, you even feel like you’re doing something and you are but like you say you’ve got to execute your learning or nothing will ever happen.

Without action nothing happens. There MUST come a time when you MUST turn into a full time doer. There will always be something to learn.

Glad to know you are a full time doer. I wish you much success.

I hope people just starting out get some great information here (thanks to Dawn) by reading these post series and comments to guide them not to fall into the very easy to get into traps that can make people starting out in this business frustrated and just plain quit.

Keep on keeping on, keep on doing and learning David,

  3. Hi Terry / Dawn

Once again this is another great post in the series Dawn.

Terry thank you so much for sharing this information, again this is a must read for anyone starting out online; it’s packed full of great information and sound advice.

I particularly liked the point you made about buying Products (“I would only buy products I know are reputable and know they will be worth my while.”)

In the beginning I purchased all sorts of products thinking it was going to help me only to discover they were a load of c—p! And that my wallet was a lot lighter! :(

As you rightly say Terry I now only buy what I need and if it is definitely going to improve my business or take advance it!

I do agree with you with regard to securing a Mentor / Teacher when you first start out online it will help you tremendously and will certainly give you a good foundation to build from.

I know when people first start out they may not be able to afford a Mentor, in that case seeking good sound advice from reputable people who are willing to help is always a good start as well.

This a prime example of good advice and great information thanks again for sharing Terry, great post.

    Take care, catch up soon

    Hi Ian,

Got to watch out for all those cr**p take your money products out there.

There are a lot, so now I hope people reading this have some insight on how to go about buying a product they may be interested in and only need.

Having someone Mentor you cuts the learning curve. Doing alone in this business is not easy. Having someone guide you will let you move forward much easier.

Plus all good mentors will have other students you should be able to build relationships with. So much better than doing things alone.

    Keep on keeping on Ian,

  5. Hey Dawn / Terry

Fab post, very insightful and a kinda road map of to-dos and to-donts online.

I particularly like the free autoresponder part that’s covered, I skimped on my auto responder at first (shame on me I know – but money was tight) however, I soon realized I had to splash the cash and get Aweber as it was far superior and had no ads like Terry said.

As soon as I got Aweber, I instantly got a return on the monthly investment so it has always been money well spent.

Everyone should follow Terry’s advice and just “dive in”… fortune favors the brave and a little bit each day (to take your business forward) will go a long long way!

    Hi there Sally,

Thanks for backing me up here. The series Dawn put here on this blog asking the question what they would do if they had to start their internet marketing journey again is a brilliant idea to help others starting out.

A lot of people just like cr**p products get free auto-responders thrown in their face and wonder why do I have to pay for one? I hope now readers here are in the know.

Catch you later, all the best to you Sally,

  6. Hi Terry, great post, thanks, and I agree with Sally’s comment about autoresponders, but it isn’t always easy or indeed possible to start out paying for an expensive service. It gets easier when you start to see an income but by then you potentially have lost your list, as you say. I think we all have to put that down to experience and realise that if we are not financially in a place to afford it we need to find other options, and know there may be consequences later on.

Get Response are great because they offer 100 free sign ups before you have to start paying. I sadly went with Aweber at first, believing the information I was given initially about a good autoresponder. I never made a penny out of the list and paid for 2 years before my list even got over 100, let alone saw any return on my investment. Most of the early sign ups left so I should have gone for Get Responses’ 100 freebies! But we learn by experience, don’t we.

    Enjoy the journey.

    I’ll never understand computers!

Well anyway…loved the info about the AR. That is one area I don’t fool with and no one else should either.
One time not too long ago I though I cancelled my aWeber account (It was a mistake) and I freaked out.

My list isn’t huge but I sure spent a lot of time building it and I couldn’t believe it would disappear that fast.
It all came out ok…but I know that fear now ;)

Great advice Terry…but I am not surprised because you always educate on your blog through your posts.
I always come away having learned something ;)

  8. Hi Terry,

I don’t know how many products I have bought before I read any reviews or talked to any people about them. And, most of them have been of really low quality. The reason I bought them was because I wanted to be the first one, and then maybe earn a few extra dollars by recommending them to others. Now, I’m usually letting other people doing the testing before I buy :)

  9. Wow Terry,

Your recommendations are right on. The only things I see doing differently are that I’m not a big Warrior Forum fan and I’ve never used a free autoresponder service.

I’ve definitely purchased my share of crappy products though but I think in the end it’s the not taking immediate action that held me back for so long. Of course not having all the answers to your questions can be disheartening too.

Great tips for what to do if we had to start over and ones I definitely can relate to.

Thanks Dawn for sharing this post on Terry. I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting him or visiting his blog. Will have to look into that now.

    Hi Adrienne,

It’s very nice to meet you. The Warrior forum is a good resource. I find a lot of good info on there and pass by stupid comments and info. Just like everything else there is good and bad in everything.

Anyone starting out in Internet marketing needs to know Free auto-responders are definitely not good.

If you are serious about Internet marketing you need a good reputable one like Aweber.

We’ve all had our share of buying low quality products.

Helping others avoid the pit falls builds sound relationships and sure helps if we have any questions about our Internet marketing adventures. Helping each other is what my blog is all about.

Taking action is key to move forward. We can know it all but if there is no action, the knowing doesn’t mean anything.

Thanks for your view points and interest in my blog.

  10. Dawn and Terry,

Another great post in a great series.

I try to be a do-er but it is much easier to be a learner. You can never fail when you are a learner because learning and that is admirable. I have a friend that is taking a course that will take her about 10 years to complete at the speed she is moving. This means that she does not have to be a do-er for that long and does not have to face her fears either.

I fully agree with a paid autoresponder vs. a free one. I also use Aweber. Your list is very important to making money so invest in it.

Thanks for the great information and advice.

    Hi Dee Ann,

Learning is essential. Taking the knowledge you’ve learned and not acting upon it is like putting a cork in a bottle and not letting the fluid pour out.

One must let the learning pour. At some point action must be taken and from there the learning never stops.

Facing your fears is learning, making mistakes is learning. Doing, doing, doing is what will let you achieve your goals.

We all seem to agree here that free auto-responders are a waste of time. If you’re running a serious business, one with a good reputation is very much needed.

  14. Hi Dawn and Terry

You’ve covered some great points Terry. I think we’ve all fell foul of the excellent salespage poor product people out there.

I know that I have more than once and you’re right Terry, we should look into them more and do our own bit of research Before buying them.

You made an excellent point about who and what we use to create our mailing lists and the fact that many of the free one will never get our emails delivered.

I did contemplate using one when I first started online but I had made a purchase (yeah one of those arrgghh ones) and in the package was a list building piece of software that I could’ve set up myself but I read a post or eBook from JT saying about how bad many were and how Aweber was the best available so i just saved the headache and joined Aweber from the off.

You’re absolutley right about being a learner and do’er. We could learn forever more Terry and whilst we may think we’re making progress the fact is that we’re not making any until we take action and start doing it.

    Great post Terry

I would recommend you have a plan no matter how rough and only obtain the products or information that will help you to move to the next stage.

I have just deleted several hundred training manuals on random subjects that were never going to be read but were a mill stone around my mindset.

Always record your daily activities, knowing you will have to justify this at your weekly review will help to prevent you from doing non productive tasks

As we all agree one must find a reputable auto-responder such as Aweber. There are a lot out there and you’ve got to go for the one good marketers rave about.

As I mentioned before in other comments, deleting and signing off unessential email lists is a very good brain dump. Sure beats information overload.
