Postseason door cracked open for UMD football – Duluth News Tribune

DULUTH — The second-to-last Super Region 4 rankings for NCAA Division II football were released on Monday and with it a door open just a crack for a three-loss Minnesota Duluth team to get in.

The Bulldogs (7-3) entered this week’s rankings at No. 9, with the top seven receiving entry into the NCAA playoffs.

Angelo State is the only team in the region with less than two losses going into the final week of the regular season, and the three teams that beat the Bulldogs so far this year are all ranked above them this week: Minnesota State Mankato (3) , Bemidji State (4) and Sioux Falls (7).

A victory for Minnesota Duluth in the season finale on Saturday at Northern State is required, but games to watch elsewhere include No. 5 Winona State at No. 5 3 Minnesota State Mankato, No. 6 Wayne State vs. Minnesota State Moorhead and No. 7 Sioux Falls at Upper Iowa. A Mavericks’ win or upsets by the Dragons or Peacocks could help UMD get into the top seven.

The NCAA tournament field will be announced Sunday afternoon.
