The former Disney star’s new Apple TV+ feature chronicles her life over a six-year period as she confronts lupus, a bipolar diagnosis, and fame.
She also openly discusses a ‘nervous breakdown’ she suffered four years ago, which Teefey doesn’t want to relive.
‘We went through that and found healing. We’ve moved past some of it, and even if it’s something she went through, and I didn’t know she went through it—as a mother, it’s going to affect me,’ she told the 35-year-old former monk .
Teefey, who gave birth to Selena at just 16-years-old, says she hopes she ‘can just get through the holidays, to where I’m not going up to her all the time, “I’m sorry I didn’t know.”‘
Vulnerable: In the sit-down chat Teefey, 46, said she doesn’t want to watch Selena’s, 30, My Mind & Me documentary because of how it will physically affect her
She continued, ‘You want to take away your kids’ pain. You don’t want them to have to experience that, even though that is part of developing who they are going to be, who we all are—our pain, suffering and our growth.’
And she said that whenever she does feel up to watching the film, ‘Either I’m going to have to be in that mood… where I’m not getting out of bed today, and I already know I’m going to be a little funky, and then watch it and just be alone and kind of cry.
‘And then call her and tell her I’m sorry I wasn’t there at that moment. But you can’t just be a helicopter parent,’ she reflected.
