Iowa won 26 games last season and earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA tournament, but it came crashing down when the Hawkeyes were upset by Richmond in the first round. With leading scorer Keegan Murray in the NBA, Iowa begins its new season on Monday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City with its first-ever meeting with Bethune-Cookman out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Hawkeyes are the defending Big Ten tournament champs, while the Wildcats were 9-21 a season ago and haven’t made an NCAA appearance since moving up to Division I in 1980. Former NBA coach Reggie Theus is in his second season as coach and athletic director at Bethune-Cookman.
